Ruben Acuna Gonzalez Shines in Prestigious Curtis Institute of Music Composers Recital

On November 8th, the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music celebrated its “Curtis Composers Chamber Recital,” an event dedicated to the innovation and emerging talent that defines this elite institution. Streamed live on its YouTube channel, the recital provided a platform for young composers to present their latest works, interpreted by the conservatory’s virtuoso student performers. Among them, percussionist Ruben Acuna Gonzalez delivered a stellar performance, once again demonstrating his remarkable skill and musicality.

The program opened with the piece “Rot Town” by composer Isaac Creager. In this work, Acuna Gonzalez was featured on timpani and percussion, providing a foundational rhythmic and textural richness to the piece. Performing alongside a string and trumpet ensemble conducted by Mariana Corichi Gómez, the interpretation was a display of energy and precision. Ruben’s participation in the premiere of new compositions highlights his commitment not only to the traditional repertoire but also to the music of our time, collaborating closely with the creators of the future.

The recital continued with “Three Facets of Matcha” by Amane Sakaguchi, another work that captured the audience’s attention with its originality and sonic depth.

This type of collaboration is essential in a musician’s development. For Ruben Acuna Gonzalez, being part of these projects at the Curtis Institute of Music not only enriches his artistic experience but also positions him as a versatile and sought-after performer in the contemporary chamber music landscape.

We invite you to relive this magnificent musical evening and enjoy Ruben’s performance in the full recital, available on the Curtis Institute of Music’s YouTube channel. Don’t miss the opportunity to follow the journey of this talented Mexican percussionist.
